Broadway Elementary

Buckalew Elementary
Congratulations to the winners of the Keys for Success “Principal’s Medallions” for the week of January 23. They are Kate Ford, for thinking win-win; Sarisa Helburg, for being proactive; Brenna Woitt, for putting first things first; Aubrey McQueen, for seeking to understand and being a friend to everyone; and Reanna Mohler, who begins with the end in mind. One child was selected from each grade.

Bush Elementary
On Tuesday, February 7, Bush Elementary students will take their Spring Pictures, so come ready to smile! Also on this date, Progress Reports go home.

On Friday, February 10, Bobcats will be able to preview the Book Fair for purchases they would like to make the next week.

Collins Intermediate
In honor of Counselor Appreciation Week, we celebrate our amazing counselor, Amanda Turco, for all she does for our campus and students.

On February 7, there will be a Book Club meeting in the library. Mrs. Wilingham looks forward to seeing all of her readers there.

On February 9, Progress Reports will be sent home.


Cox Intermediate
Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Creighton Elementary

Giesinger Elementary
Congratulations to our Lego League team, Giesinger Bots, for placing 4th in the Conroe ISD Robotics competition. The team will be advancing to the Houston competition February 4. Third and fourth grade students participating are: Thomas Bouffard, Zeplin Bogus, Aaron Hadash, Morgan Stowers, Tate Weaver, Lani Weaver, Austin Hart, Addison Blanks, Rylan Grissom, Brady Boccaccini, and Paige Scott. We are proud of you, Giesinger Bots!!


Houser Elementary
Thursday, February 9 and Friday, February 10 will be our Hot Houser Hawk Lunch. Two students from each class will get to join their teacher for a special lunch on stage.

On Thursday evening, February 9, we will be having a Spirit Night at Chuck-E-Cheese! Come eat pizza and play with your Hawk friends while raising money for Houser! See you there!

Irons Junior High
Thank you to all of our UIL A+ Academic competitors who participated in the District Invitational Meet last Wednesday, January 18 at Peet Jr. High. Congratulations to the following for ranking in the top 6 for the entire school district: Kylie Weeks, 1st place in seventh grade art; Ava Garrelts, 2nd place in seventh grade art; Erika Lunkwitz, 3rd place in eighth grade art; Jason Bott, 2nd place in seventh grade maps, charts, and graphs; Abby Kerr, 3rd place in seventh grade maps, charts, and graphs; Caden Tabor, 2nd place in seventh grade science; David Wallington, 4th place in eighth grade science; Jason Royer, 6th place in eighth grade science; Shailey Laycock, 6th place in seventh grade math; Christina Campbell, 2nd place in eighth grade impromptu speaking; and Peyton Lundberg, 4th place in seventh grade oral reading.

Congratulations to the choir students who made Region Choir this weekend! Ms. Fulford wants to thank the following for their hard work: Addison Cronan, Leiah Carlisle, Ray Barber, Jadin Rivas, and Matthew Gaudern! Also, a special acknowledgement to Ray Barber who got 1st chair!

The eighth grade Boys Basketball team finished the 2016-2017 season as Conroe ISD Co-District Champions. In Irons Junior High’s four and half years of existence, we have won five district championships across all sports. We have also had one of the highest academic success rates in the district of any athletics program whether it’s high school or junior high. I would just like to take this time to thank all of you for the continued success of our athletics program.

Mrs. Medlin would like to recognize Jorge Galicia for his hard work in language arts.

Mrs. Porter would like to recognize Cicily Leal and Gicelle Pineda for their constant hard work and good attitudes.

Ms. Berdecio would like to recognize Kaitlyn Metzgar for her hard work and dedication, not only to her grades, but to helping her peers as well.

Team Believe to Achieve would like to recognize Jai Williams and Tyler Randolph for being teaching assistants in Mrs. Meyers’ 4th period class this week. Jai and Tyler’s hard work throughout the poetry unit has been beneficial to their table groups and to the class. Mrs. Meyers is very proud of your willingness to take risks and offer help to others. Way to go!

Outstanding Artist of the week from Mrs. Kane is Katherine Truong.

Kaufman Elementary
The week of February 6, students and staff will be celebrating our wonderful counselor Mrs. Shannon Simmons in honor of Counselor’s Week. We appreciate her and everything she does for our students.

Wednesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 9 students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. This event, hosted by the P.E. teachers, helps raise money for the American Heart Association.

Mitchell Intermediate
Beginning on Monday, February 6, we will begin Counselor Appreciation Week. Please show Mrs. Mote and Mrs. Rascoe your appreciation for all they do for the students here at Mitchell.
McCullough will host an Elective Information Night on Monday, February 6 for those sixth graders moving on to McCullough next year. It will run from 6-7 p.m.
Third Quarter Progress Reports will be distributed on Tuesday, February 7.
Fifth graders will take a Reading Benchmark on Tuesday, February 7.
Family Science Night is an evening program of exciting hands-on science activities in which Mitchell students and their families can learn together. It will be a great opportunity for you to work as a family building your science skills and just having fun. Space is limited and for children over the age of four. You must register for this event which is to take place on Tuesday, February 7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Intermediate Commons. LC 5 will take a field trip to the Museum of Natural Science to participate in the Mission to Mars program on Friday, February 10. This field trip is sponsored by The Mitchell Parent Teacher Organization.
Mark your calendar for Friday, February 10. TWHS Improv Troupe will bring their comedy to Mitchell Intermediate to support Lily. The show will begin at 7:00 p.m. If you haven’t seen the troupe, now is your chance. You won’t want to miss it! Admission will be $5 and extra donations are always appreciated. All funds will go to the Skeen Family.


Peet Junior High
Five students participated in a tennis tournament on January 21 at Peet, with two students earning recognition for outstanding play. Congratulations to Carlos Sanchez, a Main Draw Finalist, and Ben Ploch, a Back Draw Champion. Coach Chad Baron is the Tennis Club Sponsor.

Congratulations to our twenty-nine Region Choir members! They are Gisela Sarmiento, Kendra Hamilton, Katya Sanchez, Laurel Pinchback, Hailey Britton, Ella Schexnayder, Brianna Reed, Maryn West, Jolene Johnson, Monica Williams, Sophie McDowell, MaKenna Hayman, Hannah Anderson, Lidia Perez, Kylee Allison, Aniyah Washington, Maya Murrray-Schroeder, Adel Manangan, Maiza Qureshi, Giuliana Salas, Jackson Phillips, Zachary Britton, Bryce Veazey, Christian Krutilek, Shane Joseph, Cristian Marinero, Jayden Reese, Tyler Teague, and Keeln Girard. Thank you to the students who helped run the auditions on January 21 as well! We are so proud of them all!

Congratulations to the following students for earning a ribbon at the Art UIL Competition. Two seventh grade students earned ribbons, Sofia Ruiz Hernandez placed fourth, and Gabby Romero placed fifth. Kaitlyn Fuentes placed fourth for the eighth grade.


Powell Elementary
Our Boosterthon fundraiser will kick off February 8. This year’s theme is Backyard Box Office. The theme is about making a difference in the world by getting into character. Our Boosterthon Fun Run will be February 17.

Donuts with Divas will be February 10 at 7:15 a.m. in the Powell Cafeteria. Students are invited to bring their mom, grandmother or favorite diva to join them for a donut breakfast. We hope to see you there!


Rice Elementary
Valentine’s Day Parties will be held on Tuesday, February 14.

Our honor choir will participate in the Conroe High School Feeder Concert on Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m.

Our Destination Imagination students will participate in a competition on Saturday, February 18 at Oak Ridge High School.

We will observe Random Acts of Kindness Week the week of Monday, February 20.

Rice will host a Math/Science Night on February 23 from 5:30 until 7 p.m.

Our monthly Rice Way Pep Rallies will be held on Friday, February 25.

Tough Elementary
Every year, the Western Art Show displays the best of Western art in the district. This event was held at the Ninth Grade Campus of Oak Ridge High School on Saturday, January 7. Ms. Smith and Mrs. Hawkins, Coulson Tough art teachers, choose fourteen works of art to represent the school. Each of the students received a ribbon at the event. These artists had the distinct honor of being chosen to compete. Congratulations to the following students: William Lee, Abbie Chu, Addison Beitler, Albert Lin, Irene Qian, Melia May, Victoria Ou, Anabel Hawkins, Reese Repa, Kendall Repa, Martin Gomez, Brooke Oelking, Adeline LeCrone and Grace McClain.


Washington Junior High
Congratulations to the following students who placed in the UIL Academic Meet in Modern Oratory: Ykendayllyn Tarver, Abigail Sharp, and Nalani Defensor.

Cedric Sullivan placed third in the seventh grade Science competition.
