Campus Updates: March 5 – March 11

Buckalew Elementary
Class winners of the Always There Bear awards for attendance for January are:  Mrs. Murphy’s kindergarten, Mrs. Gann’s first grade, Mrs. Segel’s second grade, Mrs. Garrett’s third grade, and Ms. Hanna’s fourth grade.  Thank you for your hard work and dedication to attendance excellence!


Winners of the Keys to Success “Principal’s Medallions” are Harrison Nash, Quinn Adkins, Christian Tiberi, Haylee Passmore, and Sarah Fry.  Congratulations to all for being proactive, kind, and helpful, seeking to understand, and putting first things first.


March 7-9 the second grade will present their annual Living Museum.  All parents are invited as the children dress up as a famous person and give a short, well prepared presentation.


March 10 is the fun filled first grade Rodeo.  Cowboys and cowgirls will be having a day filled with wonderful activities.



Bush Elementary
On Wednesday, March 8, half of our fourth grade will go on a field trip.  Also on this date our Parent Teacher Organization will receive a percentage of the sales at Freddy’s. The other half of fourth grade will go on a field trip on March 9.


On Friday, March 10, kindergarten will have a rodeo. We will also have “Go Texan” day here at Bush.



Cox Intermediate
Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Congratulations to our Destination Imagination Teams for going the extra mile to compete at District level. Our top team was the Terrific Timberwolves with members Ashtyn Ayala, Isabella Schiffman, Lexi Reams, Dayne MacIntyre, Ethan Beam, Brianna Lenard and Samantha Tabliago. They placed first and will advance to the state competition.



Creighton Elementary
Friday, March 10, from 8 – 11 a.m. is Career Day. Parents and guests from our community will visit our classrooms to demonstrate and discuss a variety of careers. Students will write about their Career Day experience in the afternoon. First grade will have Career Day on Thursday, March 9, due to their Rodeo Day.


Friday, March 10, first grade students will participate in Rodeo Day. Students will experience roping activities, trail ride cooking, and other rodeo fun. All students may dress western.


Congratulations Honor Choir Cubs! The following students were part of our Honor Choir that performed in the Caney Creek Fourth Grade Choir Concert: Airam Guevara, Emily Hause, Madison Hurst, Kathryn Kaminski, Madaline Kirk, Rudy Mateo, Jocelyn Moctezuma, Melanie Moreno, Vanesa Nava, Melissa Quantana, Homero Rangel, Daniella Sanchez, Kimberly Sanchez, Yovana Sanchez, Megan Schreck, Ashley Soto, and Taryn Thomas.



Galatas Elementary
The PTO will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 7 at 10 a.m.


Class pictures and spring individual pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 9.



Hailey Elementary
Attendance counts for every child every day. Congratulations to Mrs. Hess/Mrs. Lovely’s and Ms. Gregory’s classes for achieving 10 Attendance Rockets for the whole class being on time and staying at school all day!


Our faculty and parents will recognize one student from each class during a presentation of “Spotlight on Character” Tuesday, March 7. The students are selected based on their demonstration of the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. March’s “Spotlight on Character” will honor students that model good citizenship. Congratulations to all of our honorees.


Friday, March 10 is “Go Texan Day.” Third grade students and teachers will participate in their annual chili cook-off that afternoon. We hope the cowgirls and cowboys in all grades will dress in their favorite western clothes that day.


Friday, March 10 is also the last day to order a reserved copy of the annual school yearbook.


All CISD schools will be closed March 13-17 for spring break.  Classes resume Monday, March 20.


Students can bring aluminum cans, foil, pans, and aluminum computer parts for recycling every Friday morning for our Cash for Cans program, which helps support our school. Please deliver recyclables to the front porch when arriving at school.



Houser Elementary
Tuesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. is the Honor Choir Concert.


Thursday, March 9, is the third grade music program at 6 p.m.


Friday, March 10, is the last day of the third grading period and our last school day before Spring Break begins.


Spring Break is March 13-17!




Kaufman Elementary
Fourth graders will attend a writing workshop with author H.J. Ralles on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7.  Students will learn techniques for writing exciting expository.


Thursday, March 9 will be SK8 Town Spirit Night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.


Friday, March 10 students will celebrate Go Texan/Rodeo Day by participating in various activities. Also on this day, grade level awards will take place.


Mitchell Intermediate
On Monday, March 6, McCullough Junior High staff members will come to Mitchell and review the sixth graders’ course selections for next school year.
Friday, March 10 is the end of the third quarter.
Fifth grade Field Day will take place on Friday, March 10 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
We would like to thank the many parent volunteers who helped in the library during the Spring Scholastic Book Fair.  Your time is appreciated.



Oak Ridge High School
Congratulations to Sydney Dixon, the winner of a $1,000 scholarship from Sash Windows London Ltd. This scholarship is an international competition based on a 1,000 word essay describing how to take an idea and turn it into a successful business plan.



Advanced Fashion Design students in Mrs. Darlene Parson’s class have delivered 8 PMM Covers (kits) and 2 Privacy Curtains to NASA to go to the International Space Station. The students fabricate these items for the NASA H.U.N.C.H. Program. H.U.N.C.H. stands for: High school student United with NASA to Create Hardware.



Congratulations to Adara Land, Lauren Taylor, Dylan Bates, Gavin Franklin and Gin Ivey for qualifying for regionals in powerlifting.


Rice Elementary
Second graders will present their program on Friday, March 10 at 9 a.m.


Rice Way Pep Rallies will be held on Friday, March 24.
