October 6 is Walk to School Day. To promote healthier habits, safety and a cleaner environment, the children will participate by walking or biking to school. Join the crowd. It is fun for everyone.
The entire fourth grade will be going on a fine arts field trip to the Pavilion in The Woodlands on October 6. It is a wonderful experience for all the girls and boys.
October 7, The Woodlands High School football players will read in the classrooms. The children love to have the players visit and read to them.
The Principal’s Medallion winners for this week are: Joy Smekal- kindergarten, Romina Huerta – first grade, Annie Chowhury – second grade, Audry Sims- third grade and Charlie Monroe – fourth grade. Congratulations to all for work well done.
During the month of October, Bush will be hosting the Love and Logic Parenting Course for all of TWHS feeder schools. Registration forms can be found on the school website. The first class will meet October 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.
On October 6, Bush will celebrate Walk to School Day. All staff and students are encouraged to walk or bike to school.
On Friday, October 7, first grade will hold a Sock Hop after school.
On October 8, there will be a Cobra Council meeting in the library. This is a mandatory meeting for all Cobra Council members.

October 6, fourth grade students will attend Fine Arts Day at The Cynthia Woods Pavilion. This program is designed to introduce students to orchestral music, giving them tools to discover various instruments in the band and orchestra.
Students at David Elementary have been working hard selling cookie dough to raise money for a new playground through the Fall Fundraiser. We are getting closer to our goal!
David is having their second Spirit Night of the year at Skeeter’s on October 4, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Proceeds from Spirit Night at Skeeter’s will also help us get closer to our goal so we can build a new playground.
Our Book Fair was a huge success. Thank you all for your support and getting more books into kids’ hands. A huge thank-you also to our wonderful volunteers, without whom we couldn’t have done it!
Ford PTO will meet on October 6, at 10 a.m. for a general meeting. We would love for you to attend.
Our PTO fundraiser Fun Run will begin on Tuesday, October 4 with an assembly exciting students about getting pledges for the number of laps they will run or walk. Students will walk or run the laps during Specials time on Thursday, October 13. Parents are welcome to come during their child’s Specials time that day to encourage and cheer their students on!
Our school doors open at 7:30 a.m. Students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria, participate in Active Start on their designated grade level day, or report to their classroom to receive enrichment or interventions from their teacher from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.
Our annual Storybook Character Parade will be Friday, October 14. Students are encouraged to dress as a storybook character and hold the character’s book as they walk through the building.
Our school is focused on kindness this school year. Students are sharing kind words and actions with classmates and adults throughout the building on a daily basis. Parents are encouraged to have ongoing discussions with their children about kindness and hear how kindness is being lived out at school.
Attendance counts for every child every day. Congratulations to Ms. Middleton’s fourth grade and Mrs. Heffner’s second grade classes on achieving 10 Attendance Rockets for the whole class being on time and staying at school all day. These classes enjoyed a special treat. We are excited about all our classes earning these rewards regularly. Look for more attendance excitement to come at Hailey!
Tuesday, October 4 is Spirit Night at SK8 Town. Families are encouraged to join in the fun this special night and enjoy the proceeds that come to our school.
Thursday, October 6, the fourth grade will have a field trip to Fine Arts Day at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, where they will hear a live concert by the Houston Symphony. Please watch Wednesday folders for more information about this great event.
Also, October 6 the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. in the school library. The PTA is holding its annual membership drive. Joining the PTA is a meaningful w ay to support our school and our students, and costs only $10 per family annually.

Students can bring aluminum cans, foil, pans, and aluminum computer parts for recycling every Friday morning for our Cash for Cans program, which also helps support our school. Please deliver recyclables to the front porch when arriving at school.
Irons Junior High
Technology students at Irons JH had the opportunity on Sept. 22 to explore the Z Space Mobile Education Lab that allowed them to virtually manipulate objects via 3D glasses. When the students wore the glasses, it allowed them to “drive” and manipulate the objects from the screen. Students could literally pick up a beating heart, look underneath it, and see the blood flowing through the valves. It was an awesome interactive experience for the students.

Yearbook Club will be accepting applications for members soon! If you like to take photos, be creative and design pages, or work with computers, then we’d love for you to apply! No equipment or previous experience is required. Applications will be sent out electronically. You can also find the application on page 9 in this issue. It will also be printed and available at the front office. The Yearbook Club is also looking for parent volunteers who would like to share their talents in photography, design, organization, marketing, communication, or leadership. The Scholastic Book Fair begins October 3. A portion of book fair proceeds benefit our school library. Families are welcome to shop together October 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Box Top for Education collection begins October 3 in each classroom. Our school receives ten cents for each Box Top collected. The classroom that collects the most Box Tops in each grade level will be rewarded.
Powell Elementary will celebrate Walk to School Day October 7. Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school. The Parent Teacher Organization will provide a Spirit Store that morning on the front porch of the school from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Our Storybook Character parade will be on Friday, October 14. Please dress as your favorite character from a book and bring that book for our parade around the school.

National Walk to School Day is held every year in October. It reminds adults and students alike of the joy of walking or bicycling to school. Coulson Tough students will participate in Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5. Students and parents are encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk or ride their bikes to school. Special guests will be along the sidewalks to greet students as they arrive at school.
Each semester, classroom teachers and students at Coulson Tough, choose one boy and one girl to represent their classroom as an ambassador. As the name implies, ambassadors help new students and visitors feel welcome to the classroom and building. They also help to promote the character program and spirit days throughout the year.

Kona Ice will be visiting Travis once a month as a special treat to students and to give back to the school. Students will be allowed to purchase a treat for $3 on their scheduled days. Kona Ice will give back 25% of the profits made to the school. We look forward to working with them each month!
