Approximately 175 teams from Conroe ISD competed in the Destination Imagination (D.I.) Regional Tournament held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Oak Ridge High School with 16 CISD teams advancing to the D.I. State Tournament taking place April 6-8 in Mansfield, Texas.
D.I. is an extraordinary, extracurricular program where student teams, grades kindergarten through 12, solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at competitive tournaments. The challenges focus on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, fine arts and service learning and help students develop key skills such as patience, adaptability, and persistence. In Texas alone, the program reaches over 20,000 students annually across 16 D.I. Regions. Teams work from September until early spring to solve their challenge and then take their solution to a regional tournament to be appraised.
“We’re so proud of the hard work put in by all participants in developing solutions to the Destination Imagination Challenges which integrate the core content areas with music, drama, art, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills,” stated Chris Reichelt, Conroe ISD Gifted Programs Specialist. “The application of these skills will benefit them throughout their academic career.”
